Grow your customer base 20X in the next one week with these 3 practical tips
3 tips to grow rapidly
In every street, there is at least one fashion/tailoring shop. In most streets, there are 4-5. How do you stand out when everyone is competent and offering the same service? We'll be using a tailoring brand to to push home our point today but any business in any sector/industry can copy these principles and get 100% results.
Few years back, a tailoring brand reached out to us with this particular question and we shared 3 tips to gain more visibility, create a brand image in customers minds and attract more customers in spite of the competition. Today, we’ll share those tips with you.
If you run a fashion brand, sit tight. If you don’t, there are key takeaways you can customise for your business but more importantly, you know someone who runs a tailoring shop. Share this newsletter with them.
First things first - Show Not Tell
A lot of founders want to talk about their company, how they are different and why people should patronise them. The truth is that this doesn’t work that much anymore. It takes too much effort to gain a significant following. So here is what we propose in 3 easy steps
1. RUN A FUN, SHAREABLE CAMPAIGN:
Like we said, you have to show people what you are, not tell them! Direct a Mannequin Challenge in a crowded space like Shoprite and have a hidden camera somewhere with a clear vantage point to capture the faces of people who would be caught!
This not only provides a good laugh when the victims are pointed to the camera, but they’ll also remember your bran name. Why? Because you’ll collect their details (WhatsApp and social media details) so you can share the video with them and tag them when it goes on social media. People won’t say no. This is a fantastic way to directly market your brand to them. They would feel an immediate emotional connection to your brand after the show. Away from the camera after the laughs and hugs, collect their social media details and tag them with the video later. They are going to genuinely share it with their friends and your brand logo is neatly positioned at the bottom right corner of the screen “With Love from (your brand name)”.
The cast and crew of the Mannequin Challenge should all be dressed in your brand wears.
Now how easy is this to pull off?
Difficulty: Medium Pros: Share happiness, Get social shares, Endear yourself in potential clients hearts Cons: You’ll need to get a professional video team Impact: Social virality attained - 90% chance of growing your bottom line in 2 weeks Budget: between N30,000 - N100,000 ($72 - $240)
2. INSPIRE EMPATHY FOR YOUR BRAND
Another really effective way to get people to patronize you over and over again is to allow people form their own perspective about your brand. The best way to do that is to become a social phenomenon: Here in 4 simple steps
A. Get a random “homeless” man in the streets B. Partner with a high and expensive barbing saloon C. Team up with a makeup artist D. Make a very beautiful shirt with some message about love, caring, humanity.
The reason this plan will work is because everyone will develop a soft spot in their hearts for the company that made the “homeless man” handsome even if it’s just for one day!
Of course you are not just doing this for the gram right? You have people at heart and you want your business to be able to create a positive change within the immediate community where you operate, so make this a monthly thing. Pick people and help them.
The reason you should partner with an expensive barbing saloon and makeup artist is so you can cross promote your brand with theirs. These brands, the saloon and makeup artist already have their large social media followers. The moment your project goes live, they will share it to their followers and you will be tagged. It’s a cheap way to gain followers from already established brands.
Pros: Inspire loyalty, Inspire empathy towards your brand, Cross promote with major brands Cons: You’ll need to find and on-board major brands that care about social responsibility Impact: Social virality attained - 100% chance of growing your bottom line in 2 weeks Budget: between N50,000 - N150,000 ($120 - $360)
3. ONLINE CAMPAIGN
Buying ads is pointless unless you have a clear reason WHY you are doing it. An example is below:
Once, Pontiac motors decided to pull a publicity stunt so they teamed up with Oprah to give all her studio workers cars. It was cool publicity, it reinforced Oprah’s already high rating on generosity but did nothing for Pontiac. Everyone remembers the stunt but the issue is that no one remembers the model of the cars she gave away. What went wrong was that Pontiac had no sense of WHY before pulling the stunt. A message needs more than publicity, it needs a higher purpose, cause or belief before it can generate lasting success.
So how do we avoid the mistake Pontiac Motors made? Your ad isn’t going to run with your brand name everywhere. What your brand will push will be a story about “Women in the corporate place”; short interviews with women who work in banks will do.
Banks will be very happy to allow you carry out your interview as it is also positive publicity for them. Just at the end of the video and at the bottom right corner of the screen would be the powerful “sponsored by (your brand name)”
Pros: Win customers off the banks, become pro-social, gain corporate clients, establish your brand as a leader, Cons: You’ll have to invest in a solid media team to record and edit the interviews Impact: New high paying clients captured Budget: between N,100,000 - N200,000 ($240 - $288)
Lastly, know that people don’t care what you do. They care why you do it. If you want to win in tailoring, connect with people on an emotional level and you’ll be blown away with the organic growth your business will experience.
