Strategies to develop both long and short term traffic for your online business part 1
Works 100% of the time
63% of businesses have identified traffic and lead generation as their biggest challenge in business. Perhaps the other 37% are not aware that traffic and lead generation are the ultimate life blood of businesses. You need to find a way to constantly generate leads and direct people to your service offering or landing page.
Feeding your funnel and graduating people from one stage of the funnel to another is very key for businesses and while you can rent access to an audience temporarily through ads, it is not a very sustainable method as we strongly recommend exploring more organic means over the long term. You need to build, maintain and own your audience, reduce your CAC (customer acquisition cost) and close more sales frequently.
So how do we generate traffic for our businesses?
The best traffic source for your business is best determined by you and you arrive at this because it is more effective, cheaper, predictable and your CAC is constantly reducing. You'll find that most businesses are made for some traffic sources - for instance businesses playing in the hotel space are more suited to drive long term traffic and boost conversion by investing in content generation. Businesses in the travel industry might gain more visibility and traffic from exploring paid search and a referral model because while demand is high, it is fractionalised and exists in small clusters scattered around the internet. Being able to break into a small community and drop their shield, gain trust and start conversations that will lead to sales is therefore a required skill to feed your funnel.
Long term strategies
Blogging
Of course this was always going to be number one. It is inexpensive, requires little skill and places just moderate demand on your time. If done right, one evergreen content you put out today can generate traffic for you over the next 10 to 15 years. Keep in mind this is a long term strategy, so while you invest in every other strategy to gain traffic, you MUST engage in blogging to stay relevant. One mistake people make is that they blog only on their website, the thing is that when you are just starting, you don't have credibility, you have zero traffic and you are brainstorming sustainable ways to drive traffic to your website blog which is why it is a wrong strategy because you are blogging into the void. What you should do instead is to combine blogging with the next tip below:
Be active on social media
So you are blogging, thats fantastic but don't blog into the void. Keep blogging but share the same posts on your social media platform. A good strategy is to share just half the post and add a link at the bottom for people to read the whole article on your blog. When they arrive at your blog, a lead magnet or an email sign up form should welcome them at the end of the article or you can implement an exit intent popup. So remember, you shouldn't blog on your website alone, share on social media and drive traffic back to your website where you can build an audience for your email campaigns. Why are email campaigns important?
Email marketing campaigns
Email is the oldest form of digital outreach and it is still the most effective and cheapest. When it comes to acquisition and retention, nothing beats email. It is the most cost effective way to reach your audience because you don't pay to send emila. You will certainly be able to find a decent email campaign platform which doesn't charge you an arm and a leg. You can automate your email sending far ahead into the future and if you take it a step higher, you can easily find the interest of your audience by tracking teir source, clicks and segment them properly so you can even be more effective in your campaigns. Email marketing also accords you the privilege of running A/B testing so you can become more efficient by learning what works with a specific segment of your audience and what doesn't. The most important thing about email marketing is that you have the keys; nobody controls how frequently you can reach your audience and no one can boot you out or ban you. Your audience is your audience and this is something you don't get when you put your content on other people's platforms - they dictate the rules and can kick you out anytime they want. Equally vital is that you can build a lasting relationships with your customers via email - there is no third party, just you and direct access to your subscribers. According to a statistic given by Radicati, about 4.26 billion people use email. That's enough numbers to convince you that email is still relevant in our world today.
We'll stop here today, tomorrow we'll focus on the short term strategies you can use to drive traffic to your online business.
